From the most popular comedy opera in Taiwan, Mozart’s “The Magic Flute,” to the two most authentic “Bel Canto” (Beautiful Singing) style operas in the world: Rossini’s “The Barber of Siviglia” and Bellini’s “Norma.” These stories always feature young, beautiful, and intelligent women who devote themselves to true love, but not every one of them will live happily ever after with a prince.
Furthermore, from Bernstein’s modern opera “Candide,” we will realize that opera is not only a musical fantasy anymore. It describes the natural world and the real tragedy. We must do our best to find our way of surviving.
